The changing tone

Shades of Brown (Desert Sand): Mojave Desert, California

The colour, desert sand, is considered to be a deep beige, like the desert sand we all imagine in our heads.

However desert sand is chameleon-like in its changing of tones due to the effects of the sunlight and its reflection throughout the different hours of the day.

In the dawn light the sand has a pinkish/orange glow, the bright mid day sun radiates a harsh golden tone and the setting sun gives a mauvish tint.

They say under all conditions, even in a glass jar indoors, desert sand will change its tone, influenced by surrounding conditions.
